my second musical theatre collaboration with the theatre practice, this time an about-turn from the stirring emotional sensitivies of if there're seasons... to a madcap period comedy set feudal china. i play the "virtuous" wife. as you can imagine, it will be yet another acting challenge for me... me demure? virtuous? more ching-chong then ever? can it be?

2007 was a year I spent an unprecedented amount of time and energy building up my mandarin portfolio. this concert is the culmination of those efforts, and a marriage between two mediums close to my heart: jazz, and the chinese language.
accompanying me will be some of my dear friends mei sheum (piano/ arranger), brandon wong (bass) and tan boon gee (drums).
it will be a 30min concert and entrance is free. make a lunchtime date with your friends and colleagues and get your ass down!

in keeping with my personal tradition of doing one large-scale musical a year. this year's is a breakthrough in more ways than one. my first foray into chinese theatre, i'll not only be singing and acting in mandarin, but this will also be my formal debut in a lead role.
"Inspired by the popular hits of songwriting sensation Liang Wern Fook and written by award-winning Hong Kong playwright Raymond to, who penned the 2005 hit movie Perhaps Love starring Jacky Cheung, If There're Seasons... is a breathtaking musical about love beyond death, friendships that go the distance, and dreams that find their way home.
The Theatre Practice, which brought you the magnificent stage spectacle Lao Jiu: The Musical, and the modern day rendering of Cao Yu's famous classic Thunderstorm, is back again to excite your senses and warm your hearts in this epic of love and courage!"
i'm looking forward to the challenges and joys of performing in a language close to my heart, and anticipate a personal growth and catharsis through the rehearsal process with the theatre practice.
please come. (there'll be surtitles...)
